Duane Stephenson has distinguished himself as a respected singer and songwriter with a purity of heart and sound that can be felt from the first note of his melodic instrument. From the quality of his voice to his potent lyrics and memorable melodies, Duane ably addresses a variety of issues, ranging from powerful social commentary to romance. Duane’s work as a singer and songwriter are reflective of his early artistic exposure to the music industry veterans, many of whom have provided guidance and inspiration along his path.
In February 2025 his new album Weekend Dude was released. This album was produced by Donovan Germain on the Penthouse Records label. This album focuses on the more lighter side of life with a good natured feel. It features the songs – Weekend Dude, Come to Me, Blessed are the Meek, Naked, Jacqueline, Dancehall Broom, Jah Jah Give Us Life, My Lady, Pull Me Down, Remember My Name, Black As Coal, Ital Daughter, That’s What She Loves and Last thing On My Mind.

His first album titled From August Town was released on Cannon/VP Records in 2008 and was produced by one of his musical mentors, the legendary Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser. Fraser recognized Duane’s talent early on and together they crafted an exceptional debut. The album was heralded by Billboard magazine as one of six albums “collectively galvanizing a roots reggae revival”.
Duane’s second album Black Gold was released on VP Records in 2010 and was nominated for the 2010 Album of the Year at Jamaica’s EME (Excellence in Music & Entertainment) Awards. The album peaked at #1 on the Jamaica Music Countdown, with some of reggae’s most innovative artistes like dub poet and cultural icon Mutabaruka, Grammy-Award winning singer Gramps Morgan and firebrand singer Queen Ifrica. Duane also notably collaborated with legendary musicians The Wailers to write A Step For Mankind which was done to benefit the United Nations World Food Program.
Throughout the course of his career Duane has toured much of the world, with frequent tour dates across North, Central and South America, and parts of Europe. Recent performances have attracted very positive responses from new and longtime fans alike with memorable performances at popular music festivals like Rotterdam Reggae Festival (The Netherlands), Rockers Rockers Rockers (France), and the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (US).
In 2014 Duane released the album Dangerously Roots to critical and popular acclaim. For many, this third album solidified him as a Reggae singer of exceptional quality. In 2018 he released Pure Diamond Collection.
